The National Committee for the Performing Arts O'Neill Theater Center Fellowship Program

The National Committee for the Performing Arts (NCPA) was established in 1993 as an organization to support, enhance and advocate national arts education through the Kennedy Center, as the National Center for the Performing Arts. The NCPA is made up of business, political and philanthropic leaders who have been on the cutting edge of advocacy for the arts and professional arts education and development. It is with this mission in mind that the NCPA sponsors a series of professional fellowships through KCACTF. Through these fellowships, the NCPA supports the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’s national outreach which creates opportunities for educational and professional development for playwriting, criticism, and musical theatre in all 50 states. The NCPA fellowships aim to assist the most talented of the KCACTF students in bridging the gap between academic and professional theater worlds by providing them with opportunities to work with and learn from established theater artists through the O’Neill Theater Center.

O'Neill Theater Center Musical Theater Conference Internships

KCACTF, in conjunction with the O'Neill Theater Center, will award one student with an all-expenses-paid internship to the National Music Theater Conference.

The student will be selected from schools entering the KCACTF. Students with a demonstrated proficiency as musical theater directors, librettists, lyricists, or composers, will be considered for this unique professional learning opportunity.

The internships will take place during the National Music Theater Conference. Final selection will be made by the NMTC Artistic Director, Paulette Haupt.

The winning student will participate in the Conference as an assistant to the creative artists/artistic staff and have ample opportunity to discuss his or her work with resident professionals. Interns will actively participate in the rehearsal and developmental process during the development of new music theater works. The conference focus is on the creative process and the exploration of works-in-progress. The process involves script-in-hand readings by a company of Equity actor/singers, company, and panel discussions. The National Music Theater Conference is held in August of each year at the O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. O'Neill Theater Center's National Playwrights Conference

The first place winner of the Lorraine Hansberry and the SiTv Playwriting Award will have the opportunity to attend the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference in Waterford, Connecticut as official observers. During a two-week internship at the Conference (late July), the winning playwrights will have the opportunity to observe plays by noted playwrights in development and to have access to and assist the artistic staff of the Conference. KCACTF provides transportation to the O’Neill and an honorarium of $100. The O’Neill provides room, board, and tuition for a two-week period.

O’Neill Design Fellowship

AWARDED TO THREE NATIONAL BARBIZON DESIGN FINALISTS
Three national finalists of the Barbizon Award for Excellence in Costume, Scenic and Lighting Design will attend the O’Neill Playwrights Conference in July as assistants to the resident design staff. Each student will observe and assist the process between the designers, playwrights, directors and dramaturges from beginning to end. The Fellows will be selected by the resident artistic staff of the O’Neill Playwrights Conference during the National Festival of KCACTF.
