Capacity Building
Regional and National Capacity Building Programs
The DeVos Institute partners with regional and national funders to provide training and support for executive, artistic, and board leadership in critical arts communities nationwide. The two-year program is offered free of charge to participants and consists of:
- Six half-day seminars in core competency areas including artistic planning, board development, fundraising, marketing, institutional visibility, and strategic planning;
- 12 on-line webinars, focused on sub-topics in each competency area, to facilitate group dialogue and peer-mentorship;
- One-on-one consultation with each participating organization in areas of special concern.
Since they began in 2002, these programs have served over 500 organizations in New York City, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Grand Rapids, Orlando, Miami, and Chicago. Additionally, the Institute runs two national programs servicing 20 organizations as part of the Ford Foundation’s Diverse Arts Spaces Initiative, as well as a specialized program for arts education, performing, and advocacy organizations in Upper Manhattan.

International Arts Management Symposia
International intensives led by Michael M. Kaiser and Institute faculty focus on artistic planning, board development, fundraising, and marketing and have reached leaders throughout the world, including in six African countries, Argentina, China, Egypt, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Mexico, Croatia, Portugal, and Israel.
