Celebrate Mexico 2010
About the celebration
September 11-October 1, the Kennedy Center presents Celebrate Mexico 2010, commemorating Mexico's 200 years of independence and 100 years since the 1910 revolution. Highlighted performances and exhibitions cover the vast breadth of Mexico's contributions to the arts world, including pre-Hispanic, Spanish, modern, and contemporary Mexican art. Hailing from Mexico City to Veracruz to Oaxaca to the shared border with the U.S., the artists performing in Celebrate Mexico 2010 will showcase the rich, vibrant culture of our southern neighbor.
Kicking off the celebration is the 26th Annual Open House Arts Festival, featuring artists from the Washington, D.C. region and Mexico in more than 20 performances, demonstrations, and events. Returning this year to the Open House Arts Festival is the 15th Annual Multicultural Children's Book Festival.
Celebrate Mexico 2010 will also include the internationally acclaimed Tania Pérez-Salas Compañia de Danza; a KC Jazz Club concert by vocalist Magos Herrera; innovative contemporary circus Cirko de Mente; performances by viol player Jordi Savall with the remarkable chamber group Tembembe Ensamble Continuo; many free Millennium Stage events; and an exhibition by contemporary artist Betsabeé Romero.
