Since December 2001, The Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Series for Artistic Excellence has made possible a ten-year initiative of innovative and inventive performances. The series, funded through a leadership grant of ten million dollars from the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation, will enable the Center to select and produce unique annual performances or collaborative efforts between artists.

The Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Series for Artistic Excellence presents performances or collaborations selected from opera, theater, ballet, symphonic music, jazz, or modern dance. Each year the Kennedy Center produces a world-class production to showcase as part of the series; previous performances have included appearances by Russia’s famed Bolshoi Ballet as well as a concert version of Oscar Hammerstein’s Carmen Jones featuring Vanessa Williams.

The series reflects the Kennedy Center’s and the Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation’s commitment to making these projects accessible to children. A number of seats to each event will be held for Washington, D.C. school children, and the Kennedy Center Education Department will produce related educational programming for each presentation in the series.

The Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation is a nonprofit organization that takes an innovative approach to philanthropy. In addition to offering grants and awards, it believes in direct action, promoting education, and creating powerful incentives that will stir young people to strive for excellence.
